# Browsing the catalog (/catalog/browsing)

Move through warehouses, namespaces, and tables in the portal Data Catalog.

Open **Data Catalog** — anyone can, it is not gated by a feature permission.

## What you see is yours

The catalog lists data with your identity, so it shows only the warehouses, namespaces and tables
you have been granted; an empty catalog means no grants, not a fault. With no access it shows
**No rights yet** and a **Check again** button — ask an administrator, then use it once the grant is
made. See [data permissions](/catalog/data-permissions).

## Move through the tree

The left pane is a three-level tree:

- **Warehouse** — the top-level storage area. Expand for its namespaces.
- **Namespace** — a group of tables, the equivalent of a schema. Namespaces nest; a nested one is
written with dots, like `sales.eu.raw`, and shows as folders within folders.
- **Table** — a single table. Select it to open its [detail pane](/catalog/table-details).

Selecting a warehouse or namespace also opens a detail pane, because each level is its own
permission scope: a warehouse has **Overview** and **Permissions** tabs, a namespace has
**Contents** and **Permissions**. A non-Iceberg table shows a **format** badge and a different icon, and has no
preview or schema — see [Iceberg tables](/catalog/iceberg).

**Refresh** in the header reloads the tree after data changes.

Below the tree, the **Roles** section lists the catalog roles you can see — see
[catalog roles](/catalog/data-permissions#catalog-roles).

## Filter the tree

The **Search** field above the tree filters warehouses, namespaces and tables as you type; clear it
to see everything again. This is not the portal's `⌘K` search — **Search** filters the current tree,
`⌘K` searches the whole portal. See [search with ⌘K](/getting-started/portal-tour#search-with-k).
