# Tour of the portal (/getting-started/portal-tour)

Find your way around the portal sidebar, launcher, and search.

The portal at `https://<your-databaas-domain>` is where you open every other feature.

## The Overview

**Overview** is the home page: a card with an **Open** button per feature you can open. A feature
appears only if you have permission for it, so your Overview can differ from a colleague's.

## The sidebar

The left sidebar lists the same features as the Overview, grouped by purpose. A group appears only
if you have permission for at least one of the features in it.

| Group | Feature | What it opens |
| ----- | --- | ------------- |
| Data Engineering | Data Catalog | Browse Iceberg warehouses, tables and previews. |
| Data Engineering | Pipelines | Workflow orchestration powered by Airflow. |
| Data Science | Notebooks | Interactive notebooks powered by JupyterHub. |
| Business Intelligence | Dashboards | Analytics and visualisation powered by Superset. |
| Administration | Access control | The portal screens for granting feature permissions and roles. |
| Administration | Identity | Single sign-on powered by Zitadel: the user directory. |
| Administration | Catalog Admin | Manage Iceberg warehouses and permissions in Lakekeeper's own interface. |

**Data Catalog** shows to everyone, since its contents are already filtered to what you may read.
**Administration** shows only to platform administrators.

The panel icon at top left collapses the sidebar to icons with hover tooltips; the wordmark returns
you to the Overview.

## Work with a feature inside the portal

Each feature opens inside the portal and keeps its own interface — Notebooks is Jupyter, Pipelines
is Airflow, Dashboards is Superset — and your single sign-on carries over, so you are never asked to
log in again.

The Pipelines entry opens the Airflow web interface: list pipelines, inspect runs, read task logs,
and trigger a run with the right permission. See
[monitoring and running pipelines](/pipelines/monitoring).

## Search with ⌘K

The top-bar search opens with a click or `⌘K` (`Ctrl+K` on Windows and Linux). It searches two
things:

- **Data Catalog** — tables (Iceberg and generic), matched on table name or namespace, and only
ones you may see. Selecting a result opens that table in the Data Catalog.
- **Users** — people in your directory, matched on login name, display name or email. Informational
  only; selecting one navigates nowhere.

Type at least two characters. The **All**, **Catalog** and **Users** tabs narrow results and show
each tab's match count. Dashboards are not searched; find them in Superset.

To search *inside* the catalog instead — filtering the warehouse tree — use the search field at the
top of the Data Catalog's own sidebar. See [browsing the catalog](/catalog/browsing).

## Sign out from the user menu

The circle with your initials at the right of the top bar holds **Sign out** and the name and email
Databaas knows you by, both from your single sign-on account. Check them on your first visit: that is
the identity every feature sees, and your notebook Git commits are attributed to that name and address.
